Biography
Mª Coronada Fernández-Calderón is Research Investigator at Biomedical Research Networking Center in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) and Associate Professor of the Biomedical Sciences Departament at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Extremadura. She has participated in large local and international projects funded through public and private entities. She is author or co-author of several scientific papers and national and international conference communications in the field of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Microbial Biofilms, Biomaterials, Medical Devices. Concerning her teaching activity, she has participated in the edition of books of microbiology and infectious diseases and teaching innovation projects.
Research Interest
Her research activity is mainly focused on biofilm-based healthcare-associated infections and the strategies to detect and prevent the development of microbial biofilms in biomaterials for medical devices. She also serves as referee for several international journals of the American Society for Microbiology.
